4.02 Lac Apply For MHT CET

The registration process for the joint Common Entrance Test (MHT-CET), which concluded on March 28, saw 4.02 lakh students from Maharashtra and outside the state apply for the same. According to figures provided by the Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test Cell, Mumbai (main and suburbs) saw the highest registration followed by Pune for the test that will be held on May 5.
Following a decision by the state government to conduct a common test for admission to first year degree courses of health sciences (MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BHMS, BUMS etc.) and technical education (Engineering, Technology and Pharmacy), a state cell was set up for the common entrance test. Previously, the entrance test was conducted separately by the Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER) and Directorate for Technical Education (DTE). Under the single CET format though, Physics and Chemistry papers remain common while students aspiring for admission to medical colleges opt for biology as the third paper while those looking for admission to engineering and pharmacy opt for Maths.
As per statistics released by the entrance test cell, 45,039 out of 48,048 registered students have paid for the exams and are eligible to appear for the test. The number includes 3,643 students from outside Maharashtra, who will be appearing at one of the 23 centres that will conduct the test. Pune saw a registration of 45,936 students, of which 43,483 students, including 2386 students from outside the state, will appear at 16 centres for the exam. Thane has the third highest number of registrations at 26,258 students, of which 25,067 students, including 847 from outside the state, are eligible for appearing for the test at one of the 13 centres.
In all, the registration process which concluded on March 28, which was the last date for paying fees, saw 4,02,392 students out of the 4,24,912 registered students complete their registration. The test will be held in two sessions, where the first session will have students appear for the test from 10 to 11.30 am with those opting for Biology continuing up to 1 pm. Those opting for Maths will appear for the paper from 2 pm onwards.
